We want to find more about how people use Blackett Street, which will be closed to all traffic (including cars, buses, taxis and cycles) for 10 weekends during the Great Exhibition of the North this summer. In doing this the City Council hopes to create a more pleasant area for the many people who are in the city during weekends like this. During these weekends, the buses which normally stop on Blackett Street will be re-routed to stop on Newgate Street / Market Street – a few minutes’ walk away. Here's a bit more about what's happening this summer:
We'd like to get the views of people who have recently visited Blackett Street on what they think about travelling through it, so if you have done this, we'd like to hear from you (if you are completing the survey, please think about the last time you visited Blackett Street).
You may or may not remember that Northumberland Street used to have through traffic on it in the 1980s before the decision was taken to remove that traffic. We are considering permanently closing Blackett Street to all through traffic, and we would like your thoughts on this as well.
Your answers will be kept confidential, and it will not be possible to identify any particular individual from the published results. We will use the findings from this research to help improve Blackett Street and the city centre.
