A ground-breaking report which is due to be published in July will set out how to make Newcastle a fairer city. Principles of fairness will be set out to help make sure that decision makers act fairly when tackling issues in the face of spending cuts. Are you a fair-minded person?
Take a look at some of the dilemmas councillors face and set out how you would tackle them in a way which you consider to be fair.
Your opinions will be taken into account when the report is discussed at a Let's talk about Tomorrow event which will set out what kind of a city Newcastle will be by 2016.
- Should providing resources for the care of older people be a greater priority than funding other services which are used by all residents
- Should the council charge for the collection of garden waste?
- Should the council invest more in environmental services in poorer neighbourhoods than in more affluent areas?
- What priority should be given to support for early years and who should receive these services?
- Under what circumstances is it right to subsidise unprofitable bus routes?
- Should we welcome people seeking asylum and provide them with housing and other services, or should we be concerned about the potential negative response from others in the community?
- Should we withdraw services from the small number of individuals and families whose anti-social behaviour impacts on their neighborhoods?
- Should the council subsidise cultural institutions when their audience is predominantly people from outside of the city and wealthier residents?
- What is the right balance between the encouragement of growth in the city centre, as against measures to create jobs in the poorer communities where unemployment is highest?
