Newcastle Fairness Commission 2016 - This consultation has now ended

In a climate of austerity, what can we do to make Newcastle a city, where people can feel, with justification, that fair decisions are being made?
Back in 2011, this question led Newcastle City Council to set up the Newcastle Fairness Commission. The Commission - a group of individuals with a variety of experiences, from within Newcastle and beyond - set out to define some principles of fairness to improve decision-making and guide the work of the council and other organisations in the city.
Watch this short film to see Professor Chris Brink, Chair of the Newcastle Fairness Commission, talking about the findings of the Fairness Commission and explaining different aspects and principles of fairness:
In 2016 the Fairness Commission is coming together again and you are invited to join the conversation. We want to know if Newcastle has become a fairer city and if there is more to be done by organisations across Newcastle to create a fair city for its citizens.
You can get involved by completing the short survey in the 'surveys' section below.
Or join the conversation on 28th June 2016. This is a free event, but spaces are limited and booking is essential. To find out how to book a place please see the 'events' section below.
If you have more questions about this, please contact Abigail Holder at: abigail.holder@newcastle.gov.uk. The results from this consultation will be made available here and on the Council's website: www.newcastle.gov.uk. Thanks for taking part.

Thank you for taking an interest in the Newcastle Fairness Commission consultation on the Let's Talk Newcastle website. Thank you, in particular to those who shared their views about fairness in the city by completing the short survey.

I am attaching a short note which explains the background to the survey and gives a brief summary of the results.

I also wanted to let you know how the results of the survey are being used.  A summary of responses was displayed on a screen at the Fairness Commission event held in Newcastle on 28th June. Those who attended the event were invited to read the comments and respond to them during the event.

The next step will be a report to Newcastle City Council later this year, which will include recommendations about what should happen next.  These recommendations will be informed by the Fairness Commission event and the results of the Let’s Talk Newcastle survey.

If you have any questions about this survey or would like more details please contact abigail.holder@newcastle.gov.uk

Best wishes

Abby Holder
