Newcastle Hate Crime Consultation in 2018 - This consultation has now ended

About hate crime
Thousands of people across the UK are victims of hate crime each year, ranging from verbal to violent physical attacks and murders. Hate crime not only affects the victims but also the thoughts and behaviour of others, and can leave long-lasting effects on individuals as well as entire communities. Over the past two years Newcastle, as well as the whole of the UK, has witnessed an increase of hate crime.
If you want to report hate crime, you can find more information on how to do it at the end of the survey.

About the consultation
The Newcastle Hate Crime and Community Tensions Monitoring Group is undertaking a city-wide review of hate crime, and we want to hear people’s views on what hate crime means, how we could improve hate crime reporting (including third-party reporting), and how we could improve engagement with communities as well as the voluntary and education sectors in relation to hate crime. Find out more here:

About the Newcastle Hate Crime and Community Tensions Monitoring Group
Newcastle City Council takes the issue of hate crime seriously and works with a range of partners to tackle it. As a result we have set up the Hate Crime and Community Tensions Monitoring Group, which works in partnership across sectors to monitor, analyse and respond to hate crime and community tensions in Newcastle and to develop proactive approaches to reducing hate crime and tensions. There are a number of agencies and organisations which form the group including Northumbria Police, universities, and housing providers.
