Family and Friends Care 2020 - This consultation has now ended

Family and Friends Care on Biteable.Family and friends have a unique and often vital role in caring for children and young people whose own parents are unable to care for them. We want to improve our support to family and friends carers and need your views to help shape the support we provide.

It is Newcastle City Council’s vision that our city is a great place for children and young people to grow up. This means we want every child in our city to be safe, happy, healthy and loved.
A ‘family and friends carer’ is a relative, friend or other person known to the child or young person who cares for that child full time. This arrangement may be put in place through a private family arrangement or through a formal Special Guardianship Order, Child Arrangements Order, a Connected Persons arrangement or Adoption.
Taking on the care of a friend or relatives’ child can be incredibly rewarding but will often mean upheaval for the carer and can impact upon the carers own family and financial circumstances.
We are reviewing and updating our Family and Friends Care arrangements and your views on the support Family and Friends Carers may need throughout their time as a carer will assist us in developing our service.

Thank you for taking the time to complete our short survey.
If you need this consultation in a different format, such as large print, you can ask for this by contacting us at: CorporateParentingAdmin@newcastle.gov.uk.
This first phase of our consultation will finish on Sunday 19 July 2020. Following a review of all feedback received in this first phase of the consultation we will produce a draft Family and Friends Care policy.  The draft policy will be shared for further consultation from Monday 3 August to Sunday 23 August. Once the second phase of consultation is complete we will review all feedback received and produce a final policy that will be published on the Council's website in September 2020.
