'To Let' boards 2012 - This consultation has now ended

The Council introduced a voluntary code to encourage landlords and estate agents to manage more effectively the way they put up and remove letting boards. As this code isn’t compulsory, there is no penalty for not following it.
The council receive a significant amount of complaints each year about unauthorised boards. Many of these complaints are about multiple boards being displayed on one property and boards being left up for more than 14 days after the start of a tenancy. In March this year, a survey showed that there were 1560 To Let boards, from 151 different agents in the voluntary code area. On 28 streets, more than a quarter of the houses were displaying a sign. We’re looking at a number of ways to control this area more effectively such as restricting the size and number of letting boards or completely banning boards in proposed areas. What do you think the council should do to tackle this issue?
The council is considering 3 options and would like your views on these, view the options in the information sheet (pdf, 1mb)
