The Newcastle Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) for 2022-2025 is now out for consultation and we would like to hear your views on it. It describes where community pharmacies are located, how services are currently delivered and what the current and future need for pharmacy services will be in Newcastle. It is used to make decisions about whether to allow new pharmacies to open up in Newcastle, as well as approving changes to existing pharmacies in Newcastle; for example, if they want to merge premises or provide different pharmacy services.
The Council's City Futures Directorate, in its role as Newcastle’s Health and Wellbeing Board (a committee for the Newcastle upon Tyne area with responsibility for ensuring that local public sector organisations work together to improve people's health and wellbeing), has a duty to produce a Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment every three years. As part of doing this, we need to carry out a 60-day consultation with the public and stakeholders.
Therefore, this consultation is live from now until 12th September 2022. It is an online survey which asks you eight questions so that we can get your views about the draft Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment. You can read the draft document here: Draft Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment 2022-2025 and complete the survey by clicking on 'Participate'.
We will consider what people tell us in the survey when we write up the final version of the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment, and this will be published on our website on 1st October 2022. If you have questions about this, or you need this information in a different format such as large print, please contact jessica.hamilton@newcastle.gov.uk or stephen.chandler@newcastle.gov.uk.
